Sugar beet will be sown on 30,000 hectares this year, and traditional support has been provided for agricultural producers.

The Sunoko company, a member of MK Group, announced the start of this year’s sugar beet sowing, which will cover 30,000 hectares in Serbia. Sunoko again provided its partners and agricultural producers with traditional support in the form of high-quality seed, pesticides and nitrogen fertilizer. In addition to production inputs, the company provided its growers with well-known terms that include cash advances for the start of production of €300 per hectare, and this year’s sugar beet price will be €45 per ton.

“Weather conditions during February and early March brought more precipitation and somewhat milder temperatures compared with the previous year, which helped replenish soil moisture reserves and provides a good basis for the start of the new production season. Such conditions further confirm the importance of timely soil preparation and the application of full agrotechnology in sugar beet production. On fields where producers followed the recommendations of our Research and Development Center and applied the complete production technology, stable and competitive yields were achieved, even in years with challenging climatic conditions. Our focus again this year remains on improving productivity, supporting producers and further strengthening domestic sugar beet production, because we believe Serbia has the potential to maintain sector stability and further increase sugar supply to European markets,” said Slobodan Košutić, general director of Sunoko.

Expected production this season will ensure stable supply of sugar to the domestic market, with the possibility of additional placement on foreign markets. Today Serbia is the only country in the region that fully covers its own sugar needs, which is the result of many years of investment and development continuously carried out by Sunoko. This position creates room for Serbia to further strengthen its role as a net exporter of sugar in the coming period.
