Today, a variety of lightening protection installations have been used worldwide in order to protect people and buildings from the lightning. Some types of lightning rods are the sources of radioactive radiation and nowadays their use has been banned. In order to protect the environment and human health as well, all the radioactive lightning rods must be removed, replaced with another and stored or destroyed in accordance with the provisions of Law.
At the end of the last year, the company Agrium Ltd. Sremska Mitrovica, which operates as part of MK Group has performed dismantling of radioactive lightning rods, replacing them with early lightning rods whose use has been fully regulated by law. Dismantled radioactive waste was handed over to the authorized operator to storage the waste under strictly controlled conditions.
The company Agrium Ltd. proved once again that responsible behavior makes way for a successful business.
Previously, the role of the radioactive lightning rods was to improve the conductive properties of the atmosphere parts in the last 100 meters from the ground and thus protect people, facilities, equipment, animals from the atmosphere lightning, ie. discharge towards the ground in the form of lightning (lightning strike). The effects of lightning strike can be explosions, fire, demolition and can be harmful to people and animals. The release of huge amounts of temperature of 30,000 ° C occurs at the moment of lightning strikes. For the purpose of comparison, temperature of the Sun’s surface is far below, it is about 6,000-7,000 ° C.
However, sometimes a man is greater than the nature. In1899, Nikola Tesla succeeded in creation of 41 meter long artificial lightning in Springs, Colorado.
