For Sofia Markuljevic, a girl suffering from spinal muscular atrophy, a rare and extremely severe disease, the necessary $ 2.4 million was raised for treatment in the United States, and thanks to the President of MK Group, Miodrag Kostic and the world’s No. 1 tennis player, Novak Đoković, she is now provided with a private flight to a hospital in America.
Considering that the COVID19 virus pandemic is ongoing and that, due to Sofija’s health condition, it is extremely important to travel on a private flight accompanied by a doctor, Kostić and Đoković joined forces to make the path to the girl’s healing easier for the Markuljević family. Her father, Stefan Markuljević, expressed grateful thanks to the two benefactors and emphasized how much it means to them.
„I am immensely grateful to our best tennis player Novak Đoković and the company MK Group and its owner Miodrag Kostić for the flight by private plane to America and back, which is crucial for Sofija’s further treatment. Funds for treatment were collected, 2.4 million dollars, but, unfortunately, that amount does not cover other large costs. That is why this is an additional relief for us and one big worry less that we need to think about “, said Stefan Markuljević.
To raise funds for the treatment of Sofija Markuljević, the whole of Serbia united through the action “For Sofija’s first step” and succeeded in only four months. After the $ 2.4 million amount is paid to the hospital, a visa procedure will be initiated, and it is estimated that the Markuljević family should be in the United States by mid-August at the latest.
