MK Group was a co-organizer of the conference ” The Western Balkans – fast lane , slow lane” as a part of the European Policy Summit, held on December 3, 2013 in Brussels, organized by the ” Friends of Europe ” and thus supported the Government of Serbia in the process of accession to the EU. One of the speakers in the economic part was Miodrag Kostic, President of MK Group .
Mr. Kostic said that Serbia needed a big market of the EU, because it is the only opportunity for small countries to develop its economic and trade potential. He added that the CEFTA, the Western Balkans free trade zone, represented a good example, but Serbia needed a market of 500 million people in the EU. “The EU should respect economic synergy of the Western Balkan countries, not only set new requirements for those countries because it is the interest of the EU that the Western Balkans, geographically and economically, access the EU and Serbia needs a bigger market,” announced Kostic.
The event was attended by more than 200 EU officials and policy makers of member countries, representatives of business and international organizations, academics, international correspondents from member countries from the Balkans, etc. Besides Miodrag Kostic, president of MK Group, the Serbian representatives on the summit were Tanja Miscevic, Serbia’s chief negotiator for the EU accession and the Professor of the Faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade , Goran Svilanovic, Secretary General of the Regional Cooperation Council and Dunja Mijatovic, the OSCE Representative for freedom of the press.
