For the sixth year in a row, the company MK Group, led by Agroglobe and its members, together exported 689,000 tons of grains and oilseeds and affirmed its position as the largest exporter in Serbia. As in previous years, this company placed almost one fifth of the total export of grains and oilseeds in our country.
According to the Annual Report of the association “Žita Srbije” (Serbian Grains), the total export of all grains and oilseeds during 2019 amounts for 4.3 million tons.
When it comes to the most represented crop in the world, the record export of corn in 2019 in the amount of 3,117,958 tons, is a consequence of the good yield of corn for two years in a row, 2018 and 2019, but also owes its results to the consistent exports throughout 2019. Of the 3,117,958 tons exported, 2,216,245 tons were shipped using Danube river transport, which is 71.08% of total exports (58.33% last year). Most of the corn was exported to Romania, Italy, and Austria.
MK Group is, together with the company Agroglobe and its members, the largest Serbian exporter of corn with as much as 635,197 tons in 2019.
This company is also at the leading position in terms of wheat exports, with a total of 44,072 tons. After last year’s record, when 1,202,317 tons were exported, in 2019, only 318,868 tons of wheat were exported. The poor export was caused by the problems with the quality of wheat, heavy rains and the yield in 2018 and 2019.
In 2019, the exported flour amounted 143.894 tons, continuing the declining trend in exports for the third year in a row. Žito Bačka Kula, which also operates within the MK Group system, holds third position in the export of flour with 10,865 tons.
An interesting fact is that in 2019, 182,381 tons of soybeans were exported, which is a record when it comes to calendar years. The company Agroglobe is at the very top of the list in the export of this field crop, as well as of sunflower and soybean meal.
“I am proud and extremely satisfied with the achieved results, for the sixth year in a row we are the largest exporters of grains and oilseeds in Serbia,” said Božidar Kostić. “On an annual level, we have achieved a turnover of 1.6 million tons of goods. In accordance with our export strategy, we focus not only on the export of raw materials, but also finished products. This is important not only for our group, but also for the entire country, which in this way generates higher GDP, “said the director of Agroglob, the company that operates within the MK Group.
Corn and wheat are strategically important crops for the development of agriculture in Serbia. These two grains represent only a part of the crops of agriculture division of MK Group, which independently cultivates more than 15 different crops on 20,000 hectares of land. Of the total area cultivated by MK Group, 40% is under irrigation systems, which is significantly above the average in Serbia.
